The Complete Guide to Adding a Product on Dukkan
The Two-Step Product Wizard
Every product on Dukkan is added through a simple two-step form: first the General Information (photos, type, category, title and description), then the Details (price, stock, options, shipping). Your product is only saved as a draft during these steps — nothing goes live until you press Submit at the very end, so you can take your time and experiment freely.
To start, open your vendor dashboard and click "Add Product".
Step 1: General Information
1. Images
Drag and drop your photos into the images area at the top, or click to browse. You can add several photos and drag them to reorder — the first image becomes the product's cover photo, so put your best shot first. You can also reuse images you uploaded before from the file manager. For photo tips that make your products look professional, see our guide Professional Product Photos with Just Your Phone.
2. Product Type
On Dukkan, products are physical items — things you ship or hand over to the buyer. (Digital downloads are not available yet.)
3. Listing Type — How You Want to Sell
This is the most important choice on the page. Dukkan gives you three ways to sell:
- "Add a Product for Sale" — the standard marketplace listing. Buyers add your product to the cart and pay through Dukkan checkout. You set the price, stock, and shipping.
- "Add a Product or Service as an Ordinary Listing" — a classified-ads style listing without a buy button. Perfect for services, custom-made items, or anything you want buyers to contact you about via chat. Price is optional.
- "Add a Product to Receive Quote (Price) Requests" — you list the product without a price, buyers send you price requests, and you reply with your quote. When a buyer accepts, it becomes a normal order.
We explain all three in depth, with real examples of when to use each, in Listing Types Explained.
4. Category
Pick the closest matching category from the searchable tree — this is how buyers find your product when browsing. Choose the most specific subcategory available (e.g. "Men's Shoes" rather than just "Clothing"). You can't publish without a category.
5. Title, Short Description, Tags and Description
Dukkan is bilingual, so you can fill in the details in Arabic and English.
- Title (required): the product name buyers see in search and listings. Make it descriptive: "Samsung Galaxy A54 Original Case — Black" beats "phone case".
- Short Description: one line that appears under the title. Think of it as your shop-window pitch.
- Tags: type a tag and press Enter to add it. Tags help buyers find your product through search.
- Description: the full story — what it is, materials, dimensions, condition, what's included, and anything a buyer should know. Use the editor's formatting and the Add Image button to insert extra photos directly into the description.
The form opens in your current language first; the second language panel is marked as optional. Filling both expands your reach across Dukkan's buyers.
6. Save and Continue
Click "Save and Continue". Your product is created as a draft and you move to step 2 automatically. Nothing is visible to buyers yet.
Step 2: Details
Brand and Category Fields
If your product's category has a brand list, you can pick the brand (optional). Depending on the category, you may also see extra fields — size, material, condition, and similar — filled from dropdowns, checkboxes, or text inputs. These make your listing more informative and more searchable.
Price, Stock and SKU
For a standard sale listing you set:
- Stock (required): how many units you have. When stock reaches zero, buyers can no longer order — you can top it up anytime by editing the product.
- SKU / Product Code (optional): your own reference code for tracking. Press "Generate" if you don't have one.
- Price (required) and Discounted Price (optional): uncheck "No Discount" to add a sale price — Dukkan calculates and shows the discount percentage badge automatically.
- Product Based VAT: leave "No VAT" checked unless this specific product needs a different VAT rate.
Below the price inputs, the "You Will Earn" box shows in real time exactly what lands in your balance after any commission. See Pricing, Discounts & What You'll Earn for the full pricing playbook.
Product Options (Sizes, Colors, and More)
If your product comes in variants — sizes, colors, materials — don't create separate products for each. Use the "Product Options" section to define options like Size and Color, and Dukkan automatically generates every variant combination, each with its own price, stock, SKU, and image. The full walkthrough is in Variable Products: Sizes, Colors & Options.
Demo Link, Video and Audio Preview
You can add a Demo URL (a link showing the product in use), a short Video Preview, or an Audio Preview. Optional — but a 20-second phone video of the product working builds serious buyer trust.
Location and Shipping
Set the Location (country, state, city) the product ships from, then fill in the shipping details: Weight (kg) and Dimensions (length/width/height in cm) — these feed your shipping rates — and the Delivery Time buyers will see. If you see a red warning that you have no shipping options configured yet, open Shipping Settings from the warning link and set up at least one shipping zone. Everything is explained in Location, Weight & Shipping Setup.
Publish: Submit or Save as Draft
At the bottom, tick the checkbox confirming you've read and agreed to the Terms & Conditions, then choose:
- Submit — your product goes live on Dukkan immediately. You'll get a success message with a "View Product" link to see exactly what buyers see.
- Save as Draft — keep working on it later from Products → Drafts.
Published products can be edited anytime — changes go live as soon as you save. For editing, duplicating, promoting, and cleaning up your listings, see Managing Your Products After Publishing.
Common Problems and Fixes
- "Product image required" — Dukkan requires at least one photo. Go back to step 1 and add an image before continuing.
- Can't find your category — type its name in the category box to search, or pick the closest parent category.
- Red shipping warning — you haven't configured any shipping zone yet. The product can still be saved, but set up your zones so buyers get correct shipping costs.
- "Terms" error when submitting — the terms checkbox at the bottom of step 2 must be ticked before Submit works.
- Product not visible after publishing — published listings appear immediately. Give it a hard refresh, and double-check you pressed Submit (not Save as Draft) and that stock is greater than zero.
