Location, Weight & Shipping Setup for Your Products

Shipping Is Two Settings, Not One

Sellers sometimes get confused here, so let's split it cleanly: on Dukkan, shipping has two layers.

  1. Your shop's shipping settings — where you define where you ship and how much it costs (shipping zones). You set this up once in your dashboard, under Settings → Shipping Settings.
  2. Each product's shipping details — its weight, dimensions, and delivery time, filled in step 2 of the product form. You do this for every physical product you sell with checkout.

Both layers work together: the zone decides the rate table, the product's weight decides which row of that table applies. Get both right and buyers see a fair, accurate shipping cost at checkout — the single biggest driver of abandoned carts.

The Red Warning: "You Have No Shipping Options"

If you see a red banner at the top of the product form warning that you haven't configured shipping, don't panic — your product can still be saved. But until you set up at least one shipping zone, buyers can't get a proper shipping cost for your items.

Fix: click the Shipping Settings link inside the warning (or open Settings → Shipping Settings in your dashboard) and add a shipping zone. A zone says "I ship to these countries/states for these rates". You can start simple — one zone for Syria with a flat rate — and refine later.

What You Can Configure in Shipping Settings

  • Shipping zones — the areas you deliver to (a country, a list of states, everywhere you're willing to ship).
  • Rate rules per zone — flat costs, or weight-based rules: "up to 1 kg → 2 USD, 1–5 kg → 5 USD".
  • Cost calculation type — charge by total order weight, a flat cost per order, or per item. Pick what matches how you actually pay couriers.
  • Local pickup — optionally set a pickup cost (or keep it at zero for free pickup from your shop).
  • Minimum order amount — if you want, only apply a method above a certain order value.
  • Delivery times — the options like "1–3 days" or "1 week" that you'll pick from on each product.

The Product's Shipping Fields

In step 2 of the product form (for physical products sold with checkout), you fill in:

  • Location — country, state, city the product ships from. Buyers care more than you think: "ships from my city" often closes the sale.
  • Weight (kg) — the honest packed weight. This is the number your rate rules read.
  • Dimensions (L / W / H, cm) — the packed box size. Light-but-bulky items cost couriers more, so Dukkan derives a chargeable weight from your dimensions (shown after you save) and works with the higher of real vs. volumetric — exactly like real courier pricing.
  • Delivery Time — chosen from the delivery options you configured in Shipping Settings. Displayed right on the listing so buyers know what to expect before they order.

Products with variants can also set a per-variant weight in the variants table — so the king-size comforter and the single one don't quote the same shipping.

Which Listings Have Shipping?

  • Sale listings (physical): full shipping as described.
  • Quote request listings: shipping fields apply too — your quote can account for delivery; chargeable weight still helps you estimate.
  • Ordinary (classified) listings: no shipping fields — you arrange delivery with the buyer in chat.

Five Habits of Sellers Who Rarely Lose Money on Shipping

  1. Weigh the packed product, not the naked product. Box, bubble wrap, and that little receipt all count.
  2. Overestimate weight by a little, never underestimate. A 200-gram underestimate on every order quietly eats a month's margin.
  3. Offer local pickup when you can. It costs you nothing, and local buyers love it — set its cost to zero.
  4. Keep delivery times honest. Promising "1–3 days" and delivering in a week generates the complaints that kill repeat buyers. Under-promise, over-deliver.
  5. Re-check rates when courier prices change. Your shipping settings are editable anytime — a two-minute review every month or so keeps quotes fair on both sides.
